I'm Coursey, a Set Decorator and Artist based in Los Angeles, California.
Originally from Washington D.C., my career began in Aix-en-Provence where I studied art history, aesthetics and plein air painting in the French Impressionist tradition.
Soon after, I joined an inspiring group of young filmmakers at USC’s esteemed School of Cinematic Arts, where my childhood love of movies evolved into a deep fluency with the storytelling art of cinema.
Following my graduation from USC, I embarked on a years-long adventure managing the construction of architectural-scale, LED-based, media installations across South East Asia and the Middle East. This unique experience allowed me to explore diverse cultures around the globe and gain invaluable management experience by executing complex projects despite challenging circumstances.
After returning to California for good, I leveraged my logistical expertise and film background into regular work as a 1st Assistant Director. Eventually, I discovered that working in the Art Department offered me an incredibly satisfying film production career. Over the past seven years, I have become passionate about contributing my creative touch to the sets — the imagined worlds — of commercials, music videos, and longer form content. I have come to see each project as an exciting canvas for me to work on.
I excel while working closely with Production Designers and Cinematographers to execute the creative visions of producers, directors, and client teams. My working philosophy is dedicated to the highly organized conditions which sustain a thoughtful, professional, and ever-capable Set Dec team.
There is nothing better than creating a beautiful set which exceeds expectations.
I look forward to getting to know you and to creating something extraordinary together! Let's get to work!
Cheers,
Coursey
